Freshly sawn boards being set on stickers

Spruce is light with a good strength-to-weight ratio, which is why it has always gone into roof trusses, structures and battens. It is also pale and even in colour.

Unlike larch, spruce is not suited to parts in constant contact with water without protection. For interiors and covered structures it performs very well.

Questions about spruce timber

Spruce or pine for a roof truss?
